Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Gather us together from the nations, that we may proclaim your holy name and glory in your praise.” (Psalm 105)

Before I formed you in the womb  I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.”  (Jeremiah 1: 4-19)

On Tuesday, February 2nd, Fr. Bill and I will celebrate our Ordination to Priesthood, 54 and 53 years ago.  Today, we celebrate with you.  We celebrate Mass daily.  We have “proclaimed” and preached the “Good News,” the Gospel of Jesus in North and South America , Europe , and Asia in English, French, and Spanish.  Over the 40 years I have been at St. Christopher’s, people born in 26+ different countries have come to worship at St. Christopher’s.  We have been blessed to “walk” people through Baptism, Communion, Confession, Confirmation, Matrimony, and Anointing of the Sick.

What was true of Jeremiah the prophet is true of all of us gathered here today.  God was with us, forming us in our mother’s womb. God continues to walk with us, loving us, forming us every moment of our lives, right into eternal life.  Today we celebrate Priesthood.  Actually, all of us would do well to celebrate the day of Baptism First Communion, Confession, Confirmation, Matrimony as well as Holy Orders.  Those are great happenings!  Truthfully, every day is a great happening.  Jesus tells us: “I am with you. Do not be afraid.” Join us at St. Christopher as we prepare and celebrate First Communion, Confession, and on March 11 Confirmation.  We will find more and more: God is close; God is about love; we are loved.
