Fr. George's Weekly Reflection

First Sunday in Ordinary Time

“The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together…”  (Isaiah 5:9-11)

“Then the voice of the Father thundered: This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”  (Matthew3: 16-17)

Will the Christmas rush ever end?  Decorations and ornaments to be stored away! Cards to be recorded and filed! Thank you notes to be written! That elusive gift receipt lost again!  Today’s Mass guarantees with a “God-guarantee”:  the real Christmas will never, ever end.  Jesus came as God promised!  Jesus stays with us as Jesus promises! Yes, the glory of God has been revealed and all people shall see it together.

On Christmas, angels and shepherds celebrated Jesus’ birth. On New Year’s Day, we celebrated Mary, the Mother of Jesus.  On Epiphany, we welcomed the Magi, the wise who came from everywhere to adore Jesus. Today, Jesus’ chooses Baptism from John. He takes on everything about being human, especially our sinfulness, and joins with us in bringing peace, justice, oneness to all peoples. The rush of Christmas may soon end. The joy and love of Christmas will never end and will continue to touch every human being, everywhere
